India Baptist Telugu Church History :
India Baptist Telugu Church takes its roots when few of the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada (South) and North Indian Immigrant families in early 1970s trying to worship under a common roof. These few families used to assemble every weekend to fellowship with a common spirit of uniting themselves as an entity under the great commission bestowed. The seed of harvest was sown with these few families who had this vision on the Great Commission as their personal mission. This can be seen by the number of churches of Indian Origin sprung up today in US. As days passed by, mustering strength and growing in numbers, Indian Christian fellowship took birth in the Church at Ashland & Harrison Intersection in early 1970s, which were gracious enough to allow assembling. As days passed by and word of mouth communication established. This small group grew in numbers and contributions (from Tithes and free will offering) towards planting a Church. Pastoral counseling, worship and leadership grew in numbers and there was a need felt that they worship in their own tongue. While the other South and North Indian Christians made efforts in planting their own churches, a consensus lead by EPS Chandran’s family gave to the formation of the India Christian Telugu Church, the same was formally registered on February the 13th 1976. Social concerns were upheld and this Church took into fold the needs of the members and nourished them culturally with the regional concern. While the affinity grew, there was even scope for spiritual upliftment on the ecumenical lines. This small group was assembling out of their oddities to make it a point to worship the living God. This same spirit lead to the growth and over the period gave opportunity to several pastors, preachers and ministers to bring in the Word of God to this assembly.
We are glad that today the church is on the forefront in the Chicago land, inspiring many Indian churches to be planted in USA, has supported many great evangelists, preachers, Ministers back home in India. The India Baptist Telugu Church reconciled to establish the Mission of the Great Commission with Values and a Mighty Vision for the younger generation who are growing up and would be the future citizens of His Kingdom
